Doing the un-fun tasks

This post, for the most part, is to try and correct a technical thingie of how the blog is presented on a phone, as apposed to a lap-top. But I am making the effort to test with content of interest.

I hate technical stuff!

I don't understand it.

I don't want to figure out what terminology on the screen actually means. Personally, 'the thingie, is used a lot to describe pretty much everything technical. Our wifi support and my brother get quite frustrated trying to help me. I still don't know how to answer 'What version of windows are you running?'

The real issue is:

How do we get into gear to do the tasks we don't like doing?

They still have to be done.  Procrastination is the thief of time...lack of 'figuring it out energy' is... whatever is worse than a thief. An organized crime racket?

So, immediately two things come to mind:

1. Skill level is fine, but the job is crappy and/or energy is low

2. Skill level is low, so the job seems crappy and a whole bunch of emotions come up at the very thought of trying to figure something out.

One - Bugger! It's 7pm, I started work at 5am and a vegan just check-in. I'm not stoked to be back in the kitchen making seed bread but I can do it and it's just a case of 'Get on with it'

Two - Fear! Technical error on our booking system that could lead to a double booking (same room booked by different guests - my biggest fear!), I have to sit and figure it out. Time is of the essence. There is nothing more important.

Scenario one results in me wishing I had been better organized with stock in the freezer. Note to self - get the freezer stocked sometime over the next week.

Scenario two...Oh, the drop in confidence, self-esteem, tears, even anger. All of which make the task harder.

Coffee. Deep breathe. Figure it out.

I thought this had simplified things a bit much...so I googled. 10 ways to do what you don't want to do. Check out #5

Embrace the suck. Doing something hard sucks. It’s not easy, and often you’re confused about how to do it because you haven’t done it much before. So what? Hard things suck, but life isn’t always peaches with roses on top (and a sprinkle of cinnamon). It sucks sometimes, and that’s perfectly fine. Embrace all of life, thorns and pits and all. Life would be boring without the suck. So smile, embrace the suck, and get moving.

Is that the politically correct way to say - 'Harden up' ?

Motivational theories - there is a whole science around what and how we are motivated as people. Basically, the reward needs to out weigh the fear.

Clearly the fear of a double booking has me, coffee in hand, figuring out the technical issue of the day. Thank fully, today's technical issue is simply to have this post present on a phone so you can read it...and comment.

What do you do to help push past the fear and do it anyway?

And just to finish...my fabulous husband reminds me in trying times...

If it was easy, everyone would do it.
