Winter update
So here we are in the danger zone...
Weekly posts have fallen away.
There's not much to write about when the house is quiet.
We did something really different over Winter Deco
A number of weeks ago three guys rung the door bell.
Can we talk to you about a private event on your roof terrace?
We can talk
The proposal was to have a House Party on the roof terrace. DJ's spinning decks and pumping out really loud (aweful) music to a bunch of like minded folk.
This would usually be a hard No from me. But they were nice guys, pitched well, we're not busy. Why not...
We talked about how it would work, Risks. Issues. Cost. Back-up weather plan...
The result was epic! We jumped in boots and all and planned for Winter Deco Saturday. 3pm - 9pm. We'll do food.
The weather was rubbish so we ended up setting up in the front room. Which, for the first shot at this, was probably a better option. In summer, we'll aim for the roof terrace.
This is one of the very best ways to use Toad Hall for a whole building booking!
Special thanks to our awesome friends that endured music, which is not at all to our taste, to help run food and ensure everything ran smoothly. You guys rock!!
Winter Deco.
The Soap-Box Derby is usually run during the summer festival. The organisers had the brilliant idea to pull some of the summer events into the winter festival and the soap-box derby was one of them.
Jacob, now too tall to fit into the cart, needed a driver. Alco is a regular customer, coming to Napier for work on a semi-regular bases...and he has an 8 year old son!
We invited Alco, Rose and Kian to join us for the festival. We were able to race the cart in three categories. Kids and Open with Jacob pushing and father-son with Alco pushing. We had a great time! We placed 2nd in every race and have plans to improve the flat-lining issue for February! Alco will be working on his upper-body strength.
Workers, workers and more workers.....
With various projects happening in the wider Hawkes Bay area and the continuous clean up from Cyclone Garielle, we have had high demand from companies needing accommodation for their drivers and machine operators. The guys (this is not sexist, we just don't happen to be hosting any woman operators), are lovely. They work long hours and are away from their families. We have a bucket full of empathy for this as Gareth is now working away.
So..this is the catch up post...next one is kicking us off with a new monthly event...stay tuned..I'm back.
